News Release: eID-Me Digital Identity App Launches in Alberta, Manitoba, and Nunavut

eID-Me is now available for download on iOS and Android in Alberta, Manitoba, and Nunavut.

Ottawa, ON (January 26, 2021) – Today Bluink announced the launch of the eID-Me digital identity mobile app in Alberta, Manitoba, and Nunavut. eID-Me lets people digitize and store their identity on their smartphone for better access to services. eID-Me launched in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan last year.

eID-Me isn’t currently a substitute for legal ID.

However, eID-Me can be used to securely verify identity to access services online, such as Diamond and Diamond Lawyers. eID-Me can also be used as a secure, local backup of ID information on the smartphone. Identity information in eID-Me is only stored offline on each individual user’s smartphone. Bluink does not have access.

“Bluink’s mission is to empower people and businesses by making secure access simple using strong identities,” says Steve Borza, CEO of Bluink. “To prove our commitment, our current vision is focused on enabling a self-sovereign digital identity for every Canadian. That’s how eID-Me came to life. As we are continuously developing partnerships on different levels for integration and adoption, we are also working hard to enable citizens to verify their ID and register for their eID-Me digital identity on their smartphones, all from the comfort of their own home, anywhere in Canada.”

To register for eID-Me, you will need a:

  1. Passport (Canada or US), and
  2. One of the following ID cards (without an address sticker):
    • Driver’s Licence (AB, BC, MB, NU, ON, QC, SK)
    • Photo ID Card (AB, MB, NU, ON, or SK)
    • BC Services Card

Bluink is adding support for more ID documents to let more people register for eID-Me.

The eID-Me digital identity mobile app can be downloaded on iOS and Android.
